North Guana Outpost of Mickler’s Beach Plans Major Expansion
North Guana Outpost, a beloved local outfitter at Mickler’s Beach, is planning a significant expansion. On June 5, the owners applied for a permit from St. Johns County to grow their footprint.
The plan involves demolishing the current 1,800-square-foot facility and replacing it with a new structure totaling about 7,700 square feet. This new space will feature retail shops, a restaurant, and a pavilion.
Owned by James and Gail Ingalls, North Guana Outpost specializes in water sports equipment and clothing. They also rent out gear like kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, surfboards, and bicycles, and even offer surfing lessons.
Expansion Details
The new site plan at 4415 Mickler Road includes:
2,000 square feet of retail space
3,000 square feet for a kitchen
2,700 square feet for a pavilion
11,000 square feet for a treatment pond
Additionally, the Outpost is only 0.4 miles from Mickler Beach and sits on a 0.87-acre lot. The owners also propose developing an adjacent 1.7-acre property into 78 parking spaces, aiming to enhance the visitor experience with a family-friendly atmosphere. The parking areas will feature crushed coquina and railroad ties to maintain a rustic and upscale look, preserving the natural feel of the location near Guana.
Legend Engineering is handling the civil engineering for the project. North Guana Outpost, established in 2014, continues to grow and serve the community with its expanded offerings.
