Jaguars Plan for Temporary Home as Stadium Renovations Begin in 2027
After receiving final approval from NFL owners for the Jacksonville Jaguars' stadium deal with the city, the team is now focused on finding a temporary home while EverBank Stadium is closed for construction in 2027. Jaguars President Mark Lamping stated that negotiations will take place during the 2024-25 NFL season to determine whether the team will play in Orlando or Gainesville during the renovation period. A decision is expected by the end of that season, with the team following a similar approval process as the stadium deal to finalize plans.
Construction of the new "Stadium of the Future" is scheduled to begin in early 2025, with the Jaguars continuing to play in EverBank Stadium that year, though capacity will remain largely the same. In 2026, the team will play in a reduced-capacity stadium of about 43,500 seats, with upper sections closed for construction. For the 2027 season, the Jaguars will either play in Gainesville or Orlando, with the option to host up to three games in London. The fully renovated stadium is set to open in 2028. Lamping also shared updates on other projects, including progress on the Four Seasons Hotel and Private Residences development and the upcoming purchase of the final fairgrounds property. Though a sports and entertainment complex is currently on hold, Lamping emphasized the long-term vision for downtown Jacksonville.
